The Golden Kanohi are special Kanohi gained by the Toa Mata after they had collected all of their Great Kanohi. To get these Kanohi, the Toa had to go to the Kini-Nui, where they placed their Kanohi on life-sized statues of themselves. Then their accumulated masks were replaced with the Golden Kanohi.

After defeating the Bahrag, the Toa Mata were exposed to Energized Protodermis and became the Toa Nuva. However, in the process, they lost their Golden Kanohi.
