The Lava Hawk were bird-like Rahi.
History[]
The Lava Hawks were one of the many species to be created by the Brotherhood of Makuta using viruses and Energized Protodermis to populate the Matoran Universe.
There was a population of Lava Hawks in an area of the Southern Continent called Voya Nui. After the Great Cataclysm, these Lava Hawks were trapped on Voya Nui, where they remained for thousands of years. The Lava Hawks were usually seen around warm, volcanic areas of Voya Nui, such as Mount Valami. This was because the species tended to have naturally hard scales that proved to be resistant to temperatures rivalling that of molten magma.
The population of Lava Hawks is presumably dead since the Toa Mahri destroyed The Cord, sending Voya Nui back to its original position.
After Teridax was killed by a fragment of Aqua Magna, the Lava Hawks and the other Rahi had to join the mass exodus to Spherus Magna to escape the Matoran Universe before it finally broke down.

Set Information[]
The Lava Hawk model could be built using pieces from the Balta, Piruk and Velika sets. The instructions were divided between the instruction booklets of the three sets.
